biography

Pia Leong

As an Australian designer of German-Chinese descent, Pia has always been drawn to inter-cultural traditions. She believes that the key to scenography is in appreciating collaborative relationships.

Pia is the recipient of three awards; in 2002 she won the Minister’s Award for Excellence in Art, and in 2004 she was awarded the Bonds T-shirt Marketability Award and The Excellence in Design for the Sydney Spring Home Show. In 2015 her team of two made it to the final of the European Opera Directing Prize, taking second place.

She has worked as an Event Design Intern for Opus Planet Events in Mumbai, on set in Bollywood and Fox Studios in Sydney. Amongst her own productions as a designer in Berlin she has often worked as a guest Design Assistant at the Komische Oper in Berlin.
